INTERNATIONAL
PRESIDENT
J. Frank Moore III
Lighting
the Path with Sustainability
Born and raised in Sheffield, Alabama, USA, J. Frank Moore
III often visited the neighboring town of Tuscumbia while
growing up. It was in Tuscumbia at Ivy Green, birthplace of
Helen Keller, that J. Frank Moore III was first exposed to
Lions Clubs International. "I was about 12 years old,"
Moore recalls. "There was a special festival, 'The Miracle
Worker,' in town and the Lions were operating a concession
stand.
For those of us who believe that the origin of man is not
the result of some
great accident but rather the conscious effort of an Almighty
and all powerful Creator, it behoves us to attempt to explain
a purpose for our existence. My view is that a part of that
purpose is to maintain and improve the lot of the species
by constantly helping each other.

WHO WE ARE Forty-one years ago, Coach Jim Graver started the
Leo ball rolling. Chances are, that ball was a baseball.
Back in 1957, Graver
was the coach of the Abington High School, Pennsylvania, USA, baseball
team. Graver was also an active member of the Glenside, Pennsylvania,
Lions Club.
With fellow Lion, William Ernst, Graver talked about starting a service
club for high school boys. "The Kiwanians had their Key Clubs
and the Rotarians had their Wheel Club (since changed to Interact
Clubs), click
